A Board Game Top Ten Tips Interview - Economist Sam Pocker on Monopoly Strategy

Sam Pocker on Monopoly: ten tips to win the world's best selling board game. Interview by Ashley Cotter-Cairns

ACC: How can we make 'normal' Monopoly more exciting?

SP: Play for real money. It's exciting, it's potentially illegal (check your state and local laws first), and remains more involved in the game.

ACC: How does it feel to 'go nuts' and lose the rent rule?

SP: Take your time on each shift. Do not feel rushed to make a decision, there is no clock.

ACC: If you avoid debt in the game?

PS: for the Mortgage elsa after each color is spoken. You need more money as possible in the early stages of the game. You can unflip when everyone else is upside down, and then be the only player to collect rent.

ACC: Which version of Monopoly is the best?

SP: Do not play those games licensed monopoly, they are too confused and strange values. I got my ass kicked Disneyopoly once, it was embarrassing.

ACC: How do you feel the history of the game?

SP: Respect your American heritage. This is a game based on Atlantic City, a slum disgusting the Jersey Shore casino filled with smelly, homeless drug addicts, and seediest gift shops in North America. Stand tall, be proud!

ACC: What is a rookie mistake to avoid?

PS: the income tax. With the exception of the first two rounds, always play for $ 200, 10 percent is a bet windy. If you are so broke that 10 percent is more convenient, then you could just fold.

ACC: There is a "killer" to close the game?

PS: If you own Boardwalk and Park Place, loans and everything else BUILDING BUILDING BUILDING. Save yourself enough money to pay rent elsewhere, usually 30 percent of its total value, download the rest in houses and hotels. A person landing on them can end the game and let it victorious.

ACC: Monopoly just for fun ... right?

PS: If you take the game seriously, not to play with people who do not take seriously. They ruin the fun and ruin them.

ACC: What are the 'criminal' element?

PS: If you end up in prison, roll as many times as possible before paying. If you have a 'get out of jail free' card, use only in the early rounds of play.

ACC: How do you feel about the rules for the game faster?

PS: A monopoly game can take 2-5 hours if done correctly. Give this long before, undertake and carry out 'till the end. This is the only game that really is like a day at the office, is a lot of work and can be very rewarding emotionally and intellectually, but give the game the respect it deserves, much like you would your career.

REMEMBER - practice makes perfect! There are different licenses for computer and video game systems available for practice before playing.
